Detail Info
Samples |
7 studies were included in the meta-analysis(from PubMed, Embase, HuGNet, and CNKI with the deadline up to Aug 26th in 2014) |
Statistic Method |
Cochran’s Q test with quantified I2 statistic, Harbord’s modifiedregressiontes. All P-values were two sided and using Bonferroni correction for the 12 comparisons and significance deemed positive at the P=0.004 Level. |
Basic Result |
Rs4760820 and rs11178998 were identified to have strong genetic association with BD in present study though confirmation will require larger sample sizes and in additional populations. |

Without statistically significant study heterogeneity, the fixed effects summar OR for rs11178998 (1184 cases and 1585 controls) was 1.33. Even with the conservative random effective model, the summary OR was 1.30, which indicated an association of rs11178998 with BD. It appeared that rs11178998 and rs4760820 had strong epidemiological credibility, while rs7954758 had relatively weak association due to significant between-study heterogeneity and failure to reach statistical significance in the random effective model.

For rs7954758, three studies including 1081 BD patients and 1480 controlswere included. All ethnic groups yielded a fixed effect summary OR of 1.36, without statistically significant between-study heterogeneity, while the random summary OR was 1.32 showed borderline statistical significance though it demonstrated a relatively poor association of rs7954758 with BD. It appeared that rs11178998 and rs4760820 had strong epidemiological credibility, while rs7954758 had relatively weak association due to significant between-study heterogeneity and failure to reach statistical significance in the random effective model.

The difference of allele frequency distribution of rs4760820 was compared between 1126 BD patients and 1721 controls in four studies. The between-study heterogeneity was statistically significant, so the summary OR of all ethnic groups was calculated at 0.62 with the random effective model, which again suggests an association of rs4760820 with BD. It appeared that rs11178998 and rs4760820 had strong epidemiological credibility, while rs7954758 had relatively weak association due to significant between-study heterogeneity and failure to reach statistical significance in the random effective model.
