Citation | Li, T., et al. (2013). "FoxP2 is significantly associated with schizophrenia and major depression in the Chinese Han Population." World J Biol Psychiatry 14(2): 146-150. |
Disease Type | Bipolar Disorder & Schizophrenia & Major depressive disorder |
Study Design | case-control |
Study Type | Candidate-gene association study |
Sample Size | 1135 schizophrenia patients, 1135 unrelated major depression patients, 1135 unrelated bipolar disorder patients and 1135 unrelated normal controls |
SNP/Region/Marker Size | 12 SNPs |
Predominant Ethnicity | Mongloid |
Population | Chinese |
Gender | male/female:630/505 in SZ,483/652 in MDD and 618/517 in BD;369/766 in controls |
Age Group | adults : Mean age(DS)(year):35.2(7.2) in SZ,35(11.6) in MDD,36.6(13.8) in BD and 58.7(9.9) in controls |
Sample Diagnosis | DSM-IV |
---|---|
Sample Status | All subjects were born in Shanghai and were interviewed by two independent psychiatrists and diagnosed strictly according to DSM-IV criteria. Controls were randomly selected from the Shanghai general population. We chose older healthy volunteers as controls, as they are much more likely to pass the risk age of schizophrenia. |
Technique | Genotyping |
Statistical Method | We calculated Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, allelic association, genotypic association and odds ratio on the SHEsis software platform (http://analysis.bio-x.cn) (Shi and He 2005). We corrected the P values of genotype and allele by Bonferroni correction in which the P values obtained are multiplied by the number of tests performed in the same dataset; the corrected values are usually considered significant if they are below 0.05. |
Result Summary | We found rs10447760 was significantly associated with schizophrenia (allelic P = 0.00069) and major depression (allelic P = 0.0011). Conclusions. Our study indicated that the rare variant rs10447760 in FoxP2 may play an important role in schizophrenia and major depression in the Chinese Han population. |
