Detail Info
Sample Diagnosis |
DSM-IV |
Sample Status |
The study population consisted of 280 patients who met the bipolar I disorder criteria of DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual version IV). They were recruited for molecular genetic studies from psychiatric outpatient and lithium clinics in England and Scotland. |
Technique |
genotyping |
Statistical Method |
Differences in the genotype and allele frequencies between patients and controls were tested for significance using a chi-square test. |
Result Summary |
Of the five polymorphisms we examined, three were very rare in the study population and were not examined further. Neither of the remaining two polymorphisms we examined showed association with bipolar disorder. Thus, it is unlikely that the GSK3beta-gene is a risk factor for bipolar disorder in our sample, but we cannot exclude the gene completely as other unknown polymorphisms in the gene may increase susceptibility. |
