The Chinese version of the Modified Schedule of AffectiveDisorder and Schizophrenia- Lifetime (SADS-L), a semi-structured interview based upon DSM-IV-TR criteria (Endicott and Spitzer, 1978), was used to confirm the diagnosis, except hypomanic duration with a 2-day time period instead of 4 days. The inter-rater reliability of the Chinese version SADSL was good (Huang et al., 2004). This study excluded those with major mental illnesses including illegal substance use disorder except BP-I and BP-II disorders. The control group underwent the same procedure as a study group. TPQ was administered after at least 1 week of inter-episode stage; both Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) (Ko et al., 1997) and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) (Yen et al., 2007) scores will be lower than 10 (Young et al., 1995). |

The differences in the genotype frequencies of 5-HTTLPR and DRD3Ser9Gly genes were calculated by Pearson chi-square (X2) analysis (two-tailed).Multiple regression with the following predictors (a) the 5-HTTLPR genotypes, (b) DRD3 Ser9Gly genotypes, (c) NS, (d) HA, (e) the gene_temperament and (f)gene_gene interaction covarying for age and sex was performed to examine the association between the control group and the two bipolar disorders, respectively. |
| Result Summary |
RESULTS: Although no association was found for each individual polymorphism, there is a significant association between DRD1 and BP for haplotype TDT analysis (chi(2) = 16.068, df = 3, p =.0011). CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that DRD1 may play a role in the etiology of bipolar disorder. |
