| Disease Type | Bipolar I Disorder |
| Study Design | case-control |
| Study Type | Candidate-gene association study |
| Sample Size | n=556 BPD patients and n=735 controls |
| SNP/Region/Marker Size | 9 SNPs |
| Predominant Ethnicity | Caucasian |
| Population | European |
| Gender | 38% male for patients, 51% male for controls |
| Age Group | adult : mean age: 41.6 years for patients, mean age: 38.5 years for controls. |
| Sample Diagnosis | DSM-IV |
|---|---|
| Technique | Genotyping was performed using the Applied Biosystems Inc. (ABI) 'ssays-on-demand' (ABI, Foster City, CA, USA) SNP genotyping assay as per manufacturers protocol. |
| Statistical Method | Genotypes and allele frequencies were compared between groups using Chi square contingency analysis. A two-tailed type I error rate of 5% was chosen for the analysis. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) and haplotype frequencies were estimated using the Haploview software (version 4.0). Correction for multiple testing was performed using permutation correction by the Haploview program. Power analysis was performed using the Quanto program. |
| Result Summary | Single marker analysis revealed several associations between IMPA2 variations and BPD, which were subsequently rendered non-significant after correction for multiple testing. |
